To mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Germany and Viet Nam, the Deutschlandfest (Germany Festival) takes place from 17 to 19 October 2025 at Hoan Kiem Lake.
Under the theme „Celebrating Joint Development Cooperation“, the festival is the flagship events contributing to the year-long commemoration of five decades of the two countries' diplomatic ties.
The official opening ceremony is held on Friday, 17 October at 7:30 p.m. at the Hoan Kiem Lake in front of the Big Flower Clock, Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street, with the participation of H.E. Ambassador of Germany in Viet Nam Helga Margarete Barth, alongside distinguished representatives from Vietnamese ministries, German and international institutions, and development organizations based in Hanoi.
Around 40 German organizations and companies from development cooperation, the private sector, sports, culture, and science will present themselves this weekend with a diverse and engaging program.
In her opening remarks, Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth underlined:
Over the past three decades, German development cooperation in Viet Nam has grown alongside the country’s progress for the benefit of the Vietnamese people- from early support in social protection to today’s focus on global challenges such as climate change, energy transition, and sustainable growth.
Following the opening night, on Saturday and Sunday, 18–19 October, Dinh Tien Hoang Street will be transformed into a vibrant walking street featuring exhibitions, interactive activities, cultural performances, and culinary experiences. This festival is a public showcase of the enduring partnership between Germany and Viet Nam – a partnership built on mutual respect, cooperation on equal terms, and a shared commitment to sustainable development.
